There is no clear, precise definition of professional development. The situation with regard to nursing professional development is further complicated by a number of factors. 6. | Protection Against Diabetic Foot Ulcers and Wound Care Emine Kır Biçer, Nermin Olgun Pages 28 - 31 For diabetic patients, diabetic foot ulcer is the most important reason for staying in the hospital for a long time. The risk of low extremities amputation in diabetics is 15-40 times more than nondiabetic population. Protective approach and treatment of diabetic foot ulcer decrease amputation rates and morbidity aproximately 50% and are also cost-effective. Diabetic foot management includes regulation blood glucose level, using apropriate shoes, foot and nail care, regular examination of foot and patient education on diabetic foot. |

7. | Evaluation Situation Informed of Parents of Children with Leukemia Leman Kutlu, Leman Mutlu, Asuman Kabaoğlu Pages 32 - 39 OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate situation of parents of children with leukemia informed by the health professionals with illnes, treatment and care. METHODS: The sample in the study consisted of 180 parents of children with leukemia that were hospitalized at the Pediatric Hemotology and Oncology Unit (n=90) and treated at the Pediatric Hemotology and Oncology Polyclinic (n=90) of a University Hospital over the period 2004-2005. Data for the study was collected with a questionnaire prepared by the researchers. Percentages and chi-square were used as a statistical method of analysis. RESULTS: The study indicated that most of parents were mothers of children with leukemia, between the ages 35-40 (32%), graduated from primary school (31%), knowing patient’s illness diagnosis (92%), learning this diagnosis from physican (60%), not knowing everything about this illness (66%), being satisfaction from physicans approach (%94) and nurses approach (%95). The results also did not indicate statistically a significant between level of knowing sufficiently everything about the illness and factors such as situtaion of treatment at the polyclinic and hospitilization at the unit, level understanding of the diagnosis. Who learned the best the diagnosis?, parents accuse themselves with their child’s illness, situtaion need of psychiatric support after learning the illness affection of illness generally on relation between husband and wife (p>0.05). There was statistically a significant between level of knowing sufficiently everything about the illness and because of the illness, situation of alteration on relation between parents and the other children (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: It has been recommended in conclusion that, level information of patient’s parents with their child’s illness was only degree of the best explaination of the diagnosis, and physicans and nurses didn’t give sufficiently information which is level receiving of parents’ needs. |
