A New Treatment Form in Oncology: Electrochemotherapy

Electrochemotherapy is defined as the application of chemotherapy drugs with electroporation method in the treatment of tumors in different histologies. Electroporation increases the permeability of the cell membrane, making it easier for chemotherapeutic drugs to enter the cell and ensure better results. Electrochemotherapy is a cost-effective procedure that does not harm the healthy tissue. Before the treatment nurses prepare the patients and the treatment area, make pain and anxiety assessment. Beside helping during the treatment, evaluates the complications related to treatment too. After the treatment, helping the general care of the patients and the treatment area cared. Patients followed via telephone on discharge. Education booklet about electrochemotherapy should be made avaiilable for patient and care providers after discharge. Nurses who take part in the care of cancer patients should increase their knowledge and skills related to this procedure and they should be aware of the follow-up and interventions about treatment. Thus, they contribute to the success of the treatment in perioperatively. The aim of this review is to describe the process of electrocemotherapy and roles and responsibilities of the nurses in perioperatively.

Onkolojide Yeni Bir Tedavi Yöntemi: Elektrokemoterapi Uygulaması

Elektrokemoterapi farklı histolojilerdeki tümörlerin tedavisinde kemoterapi ilaçlarının elektroporasyon yöntemiyle uygulanmasıdır. Elektroporasyon ile hücre membranının geçirgenliği artırılıp kemoterapik ilaçların hücre içine girmesi kolaylaştırılarak daha az ilaç uygulamasıyla daha iyi sonuçların alınması sağlanmaktır. Elektrokemoterapi sağlam dokuya zarar vermeyen, maliyet etkin bir işlemdir. Hemşireler işlem öncesinde hastayı ve işlem bölgesini hazırlamakta, ağrı ve anksiyete değerlendirmesi yapmaktadır. İşlem sırasında işleme yardımcı olmakla birlikte işleme yönelik komplikasyonları değerlendirmektedir. İşlem sonrasında ise hastanın genel bakımına ve işlem bölgesinin bakımına yardımcı olmaktadır. Taburculuktan sonraki süreçte hastaları telefon ile izlemektedir. İşlem sonrasında hastaların ve bakım vericilerin yararlanabilecekleri eğitim materyallerinin sağlanmasına yardımcı olmaktadır. Kanser hastalarının bakımının her aşamasında rol alan hemşireler bu işleme yönelik bilgi ve becerilerini artırmalı, işlem öncesinde, sırasında, sonrasında uygulanması gereken izlem ve girişimleri bilmelidir. Böylelikle işlem başarısına katkı sağlamaktadırlar. Bu derlemenin amacı elektrokemoterapi işlemini tanımlamak ve perioperatif süreçte hemşirenin rol ve sorumluluklarını belirtmektir.
