During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Reproductive Health and Infertility Nursing Association

Because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, international and national organizations concerned with infertility and assisted reproductive techniques prepared guidelines and announced the measures to be taken. In all of these guidelines, it was decided to postpone treatment procedures. It is stated that any cycles started should be completed, but reproductive treatments should not be initiated except for patients with low ovarian reserve and oncological patients. It is emphasized that the possible transmission routes of COVID-19 are not fully defined, and the effect of the virus on pregnancy, birth, and fetus is not fully known. It is especially stated that all infertile couples and healthcare professionals should be treated with therapy in terms of COVID-19. It is reported that healthcare professionals should also be provided with training on combating and prevention methods, and psychological support should be provided to employees to minimize their impact from this uncertain environment. Treatment procedures were suspended between March and June 2020 in centers where assisted reproductive techniques were applied, and then the procedures were started again. Nurses working in this field fulfill their professional roles and responsibilities by adapting to the pandemic process quickly and effectively. In addition to their current workloads in this challenging process, they carry out numerous tasks, such as using personal protective equipment to prevent contamination risk, applying other measures, cleaning and disinfection processes, and dealing with anxiety and stress caused by uncertainty. In addition, because of the effects of COVID-19 on reproductive health and treatment methods, up-to-date information requirements on the subjects have emerged.

COVID-19 Pandemi Süreci: Üreme Sağlığı ve İnfertilite Hemşireliği Derneği

COVID-19 pandemisi nedeniyle infertilite ve yardımcı üreme teknikleri hizmetleri ile ilgili uluslararası ve ulusal kuruluşlar rehberler hazırlamakta ve alınması gereken önlemleri duyurmaktadır. Tüm bu rehberlerde tedavi işlemlerinin ertelenmesi kararı alınmıştır. Başlanmış siklusların tamamlanması, düşük over rezervi olan hastalar ile onkolojik hastalar dışında üreme tedavilerine başlanılmaması gerektiği belirtilmiştir. COVID-19’un olası bulaşma yollarının tam tanımlanmamış olması ve virüsün gebelik, doğum ve fetüs üzerine etkisinin tam olarak bilinmediği vurgulanmaktadır. Tüm infertil çiftlere ve sağlık çalışanlarına COVID-19 açısından tiriyaj uygulanması gerektiği özellikle belirtilmektedir. Sağlık çalışanlarına pandemi ile mücadele ve korunma yöntemleri konusunda da eğitimler verilmesi, bu belirsizlik ortamından en az düzeyde etkilenmeleri için de çalışanlara da psikolojik destek sağlanılması gerektiği bildirilmektedir. Yardımcı üreme tekniklerinin uygulandığı merkezlerde Mart-Haziran 2020 tarihleri arasında tedavi işlemleri yapılmamış ve daha sonra tekrar işlemlere başlanılmıştır. Bu merkezlerde çalışan ebe ve hemşireler, hızlı ve etkin bir şekilde pandemi sürecine uyum göstererek, mesleki rol ve sorumluluklarını yerine getirmektedir. Mevcut iş yüklerine ek olarak, bulaş riskini önlemek için kişisel koruyucu ekipman kullanımı, diğer önlemleri uygulama, temizlik ve dezenfeksiyon işlemleri, belirsizlik nedeniyle oluşan kaygı ve stresle başa çıkma gibi çok sayıda görev sürdürmektedirler. Ayrıca COVID-19’un üreme sağlığına etkileri, tedavi yöntemleri vb. konulara yönelik güncel bilgi gereksinimleri ortaya çıkmıştır.
