Research on Theory-Based Education Programs for the Prevention of Osteoporosis: Theory, Education, and Change

Osteoporosis is a devastating disease which advances silently, has high morbidity and mortality, and affects public health. The breakages that result from osteoporosis not only cause significant medical and financial losses but also seriously disrupt the quality of life of individuals. Therefore, it is of the greatest importance to diagnose osteoporosis, to raise awareness of it in women, and to carry out work on its prevention. The aim of this review is to examine research papers on the application of theory-based education programs to prevent osteoporosis. The examination was made taking into account the criteria of each paper’s research design, sampling characteristics, the model or theory on which it was based, the relation between behavior to prevent osteoporosis and the model, the length of the education program, the length of the follow-up, and the changes determined in individuals after education. As a result of the review, it was thought that there was a need for education programs on the prevention of osteoporosis to be started with young women, for a standard education program to be set up, for the monitoring of changes in behavior to prevent osteoporosis, and for randomized controlled nursing studies to be carried out in Turkey on the prevention of osteoporosis.

“Osteoporozu Önlemede Teori Temelli Eğitim Programı” Uygulanan Araştırmalar: Teori, Eğitim, Değişim

Osteoporoz sessiz ilerleyen, yüksek morbidite, mortalite ile sonuçlanan ve halk sağlığını etkileyen yıkıcı bir hastalıktır. Osteoporoz sonucu oluşan kırıklar önemli tıbbi ve maddi kayıplara neden olmasının yanında, bireylerin yaşam kalitesini de ciddi şekilde bozmaktadır. Bu açıdan osteoporozun tanınması, kadınların osteoporoza ilişkin farkındalık düzeylerinin arttırılması ve önlemlere yönelik çalışmaların yapılması son derece önemlidir. Bu derlemenin amacı, teori temelli osteoporozu önleme eğitim programı uygulanan araştırma makalelerinin incelenmesidir. Makaleler araştırma tasarımı, örneklem özellikleri, eğitimin temellendirildiği model/teori, osteoporozu önleyici davranışlar ve model ilişkisi, eğitim programının süresi, izlem süresi ve eğitim sonrası bireylerde saptanan değişimler kriterleri göz önüne alınarak incelenmiştir. Bu derleme sonucunda; osteoporozu önleyici eğitim programlarının genç kadınlara yönelik olarak planlanmasına, standart eğitim programının oluşturulmasına, osteoporozu önleyici davranış değişimlerinin de izlenmesine ve ülkemizde de osteoporozun önlenmesine yönelik randomize kontrollü hemşirelik araştırmalarının yapılmasına ihtiyaç olduğu düşünülmektedir.
