Information Levels of Nurses Regarding Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Infection and HPV Vaccines: An Education and Research Hospital Sample

INTRODUCTION: Primary prevention of cervical cancer prevention is gaining importance due to the gradually decrease of first sexual intercourse age in our country and the increase of sexually transmitted diseases risk among adolescents because of multiple sexual partners. If it is thought that primary prevention related to HPV infection shall be made by health personnel; the aim of this submitted study is to determine the knowledge of nurses regarding HPV infection and its vaccines and to create the basis for the planned training program about HPV infection and vaccines.
METHODS: No sample selection was carried out in the study (N=365); all nurses working at the time of the study formed the study sample (n=222). The data was collected by using questionnaires. Appropriate methods were used in the evaluation of the data. p<0.05 was accepted as statistically significant.
RESULTS: It was seen that 61.7% of the sample group did not receive education about HPV infections and HPV vaccine, 33.8% never met the HPV infection and HPV vaccine concepts before and 20.3% have encountered this concept in school. Furthermore it was determined that the knowledge level of nurses, who answered the propositions regarding HPV infection and HPV vaccine correctly was different and that this ratio varies between 11.3 % and 89.2%.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Based on the data obtained from the study, it was determined that a high number of nurses do not get satisfactory education regarding HPV infection and HPV vaccine. Therefore, training programs should be planned and given to nurses, and within these training sessions, nurses should be taught to meet the needs of individuals and communities and to improve health behaviors

Hemşirelerin Human Papilloma Virüs (HPV) Enfeksiyonu ve HPV Aşısı Hakkındaki Bilgi Düzeyleri: Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Örneği

GİRİŞ ve AMAÇ: Ülkemizdeki ilk cinsel ilişki yaşının giderek düş¬mesi, birden çok cinsel eş ve cinsel yolla bulaşan hastalık riskinin ergenlerde giderek artması serviks kanserinin önlen¬mesinde birincil korunmayı önemli kılmaktadır. HPV enfeksiyonu ile ilgili birincil korunmayı yapacak olanların sağlık personelleri olduğu düşünülürse; sunulan bu çalışmayla hemşirelerin HPV enfeksiyonu ve aşıları ile ilgili bilgileri belirlenerek HPV enfeksiyonu ve aşıları ile ilgili yapılması planlanan eğitim programına temel oluşturması amaçlanmıştır.
YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Çalışmada örneklem seçimine gidilmemiş olup (N=365), çalışmanın yapıldığı tarihlerde görev yapan tüm hemşireler çalışmanın örneklemini (n=222) oluşturmuştur. Veriler Veri Toplama Formu kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde uygun istatistiksel yöntemler kullanılmıştır. p<0.05 istatistiksel olarak anlamlı kabul edilmiştir.
BULGULAR: Çalışmada örneklem grubunun %61.7'sinin HPV enfeksiyonu ve HPV aşısı konusunda eğitim almadıkları, %33.8'inin HPV enfeksiyonu ve HPV aşısı kavramlarıyla hiç karşılaşmadıkları, %20.3'ünün bu kavramla okulda karşılaştıkları görülmektedir. HPV enfeksiyonu ve HPV aşısı konusundaki önermelere doğru yanıt veren hemşirelerin bilgi düzeylerinin farklı olduğu ve bu oranın %11.3 ile %89.2 arasında değiştiği belirlenmiştir.
TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: Elde edilen verilere dayanarak hemşirelerin önemli bir kısmının HPV enfeksiyonu ve HPV aşısı konusunda yeterli eğitim almadıkları belirlenmiş olduğundan, hemşirelere verilecek eğitim programları planlanmalı, bu eğitimler ile hemşirelere bireylerin ve toplumun gereksinimlerini karşılayacak sağlığı koruma ve geliştirme davranışları öğretilmelidir.
