A Different Route For Drug Application: Intraosseous Access and Infusion

In case of immediate treatment, intraosseous access is preferred as an alternative approach, if access time for vein via peripheral catheter strings out. Intraosseous route is lifesaving since it provides faster access compared to peripheral catheter application. With this method, the treatment is provided by accessing intraosseous vascular network. As such in the other intravenous infusions, serious complications can be also developed even when the necessary follow-up is disregarded during treatment process, which is provided by the way of intraosseous. The relevant complications can be prevented by nursing applications such as preparation of patient before treatment, assistance to patient during treatment, and the follow-up for the complications, which can be seen after treatment. In this review, it is aimed to inform nurses, particularly the nurses who work in emergency services, on the subject of intraosseous treatment.

İlaç Uygulamaları İçin Farklı Bir Yol: İntraosseöz Ulaşım ve İnfüzyon

Acil müdahale gerektiren durumlarda, periferik kateter ile vene ulaşım süresi uzadığında alternatif bir yol olarak intraosseöz girişim tercih edilir. İntraosseöz yol, periferik kateter uygulamasına göre daha hızlı ulaşım sağladığından hayat kurtarıcıdır. Bu yöntem ile kemik içindeki venöz damar ağına ulaşılarak tedavi sağlanır. Ancak diğer damar içi ilaç uygulamalarında olduğu gibi intraosseöz yoldan yapılan tedavi sürecinde de gerekli takip ihmal edildiğinde ciddi komplikasyonlar gelişebilmektedir. Söz konusu komplikasyonlar işlem öncesinde hastanın hazırlığı, işlem sırasında hastaya yardımcı olma ve işlem sonrasında görülebilecek komplikasyonlara yönelik izlem gibi hemşirelik girişimleri ile önlenebilir. Bu derlemede, özellikle acil birimlerde çalışan hemşirelerin intraosseöz tedavi konusunda bilgilendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
