Nurses’ Opinions and Activities of Patient Education

OBJECTIVE: Survey is a descriptive study performed to determine
nurses’ ideas and practices of patient education and the difficulties
they encounter during patient education and suggestions of this issue.
METHODS: The study population is composed of 669 nurses and
sampling is composed of 352 nurses working in five State Hospitals
within Trabzon. Data is obtained by questionnaire form composed of
questions sociodemographic and professional features and patient
education activities.
RESULTS: At the end of the study, it was determined that 43.1% of the
nurses were between 26–30 years old, 45.2% of them were graduated
from an associate degree program, 87.2% of them like their carrier,
76.8% of them were not happy from working conditions 79.8% of
them were not happy from their fees and 52.3% of them were not
happy from working hours, 73% of them received information about
patient education during their nursing education’s and they applied
drug treatment at 67.3% rate in the first, and it’s determined that they
educate patients (25.9%) at fifth rank during their daily practice. The
thoughts of the nurses about patient education are “strongly agree”.
There are no substantial differences of the thoughts of nurses concerning
ages, admiring the profession, working hours and conditions, wage
and their ideas regarding patient education. There is a significant
difference between nurse’s education degree and patient education
applications, in favor of associate degree graduates.
CONCLUSION: Performing the patient education, the problems such as
workload, lack of time and budget, inconvenient conditions of institution
are experienced.

Hemşirelerin Hasta Eğitimi ile İlgili Düşünce ve Uygulamaları

AMAÇ: Bu araştırma, hemşirelerin hasta eğitimi ile ilgili düşünce ve
uygulamalarını, hasta eğitimi yaparken karşılaştıkları güçlükleri ve bu
konudaki önerilerini belirlemek amacıyla planlandı.

YÖNTEMLER: Tanımlayıcı tipteki araştırmanın evrenini, Trabzon
ilindeki beş devlet hastanesinde çalışan 669 hemşire, örneklemini ise
352 hemşire oluşturdu. Veriler anket formu ile toplandı; anket formu,
hemşirelerin sosyodemografik ve mesleki özellikleri ile hasta eğitimi
faaliyetlerine yönelik soruları kapsadı.

BULGULAR: Araştırma sonucunda hemşirelerin %43.1’inin 26-30 yaş
arasında ve %45.2’sinin ön lisans mezunu olduğu, %87.2’sinin mesleğini
sevdiği, %76.8’inin çalışma koşullarından, %79.8’inin aldığı ücretten
%52.3’ünün çalışma saatlerinden memnun olmadığı, %73’ünün hasta
eğitimi konusunda hemşirelik öğrenimleri sırasında bilgi aldığı, günlük
işlerinde ilk sırada ilaç tedavisi (%67.3) ve beşinci sırada hasta eğitimi
(%25.9) yaptığı belirlendi. Hemşireler, hasta eğitimi hakkında
düşüncelerini içeren ifadelere “kesinlikle katılıyorum” şeklinde yanıt
verdiler. Hemşirelerin yaşı, mesleği sevme durumu, çalışma saatleri
ve koşulları, aldıkları ücret ile hasta eğitimi konusundaki düşünceleri
arasında anlamlı fark bulunmadı. Hemşirelerin eğitim düzeyi ile hasta
eğitimi uygulamaları arasında ön lisans mezunları lehine anlamlı fark
bulundu.

SONUÇ: Hemşireler hasta eğitimi yaparken iş yoğunluğu, zaman ve
bütçe azlığı, kurum koşullarının uygun olmaması ve bilgi eksikliği
gibi sorunlar yaşamaktadır.
