Psychological Effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Nurses and Protection of Mental Health

During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, nurses fought against the epidemic and played an important role in patient care. Increasing numbers of suspected and positive cases of COVID-19, excessive workload, insufficient personal protection equipment, being infected and infecting others, being away from family and relatives, stigmatization, and inadequate support caused increased stress levels and psychological problems in healthcare workers. During the pandemic period, the protection of nurses’ mental health is important for both their own and public health. This review aimed to investigate the psychological problems of nurses during the pandemic and practices aimed at protecting the mental health of nurses in the world and Turkey.

COVID-19 Pandemisinin Hemşirelerdeki Psikolojik Etkisi ve Ruh Sağlığının Korunması

COVID-19 Pandemi sürecinde, hemşireler virüs ile ön cephede savaşarak hasta bakımında önemli roller üstlenmektedirler. Giderek artan şüpheli ve pozitif vaka sayıları, aşırı iş yükü, kişisel koruma ekipmanlarının yetersizliği, enfekte olma ve bulaştırma, aile ve yakınlarından uzak kalma, damgalanma ve yetersiz desteklenme duyguları hemşirelerin stresin düzeylerinin ve psikolojik sıkıntılarının artmasına sebep olmaktadır. Bu süreçte hemşirelerin ruh sağlığının korunmasının önemli olduğu düşünülmektedir. Bu derlemede; hemşirelerin, COVID-19 pandemisi sürecinde psikolojilerini etkileyen problemlerini, Dünyada ve Türkiye’de hemşirelerin ruh sağlığını korumaya yönelik uygulamaların incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
