Nursing Students’ Perceptions about Spirituality and Spiritual Care

INTRODUCTION: This study was conducted to investigate of perceptions about spirituality and spiritual care of nursing students accordıng to some socıodemographıc varıables.
METHODS: The samples of the research comprised 461 nursing students studying in a nursing program of a health science school in the Black Sea region between January-February 2014. No sample selection was done. 340 (73.75%) nursing students who volunteed to participate in the study were sampled. The research data was gathered using the “Personal Information Form” and “Spirituality and Spiritual Care Grading Scale”. Percentage, mean, standard deviation, Kruskal Wallis, two independent sample tests, and Mann Whitney U test were used to analyze the data.
RESULTS: The mean age of the nursing students who participate in the study is analyzed as 21.14. Of the students, 78.2% is women, 98.2% is single and 2.3% works as nurse in the hospital and 62.4% doesn’t have any information about Spirituality and Spiritual Care, 86.2% states their knowledge is not enough. It is stated that all the students’ scale mean is 64.99 ± 6.15. There is not any significant difference statistically between scale score mean according to the grades which the students have, marital status, marital status, clinical study situations, to obtain information related to spiritual care and received sufficient information see (p>0.05). There is only one statistically significant difference between average scores according to gender (p<0.05).
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The research findings indicate that the students’ perception to the Spirituality and Spiritual Care is enough, but their knowledge about this issue is not enough and education is necessary.

Öğrenci Hemşirelerin Maneviyat ve Manevi Bakıma İlişkin Algıları

GİRİŞ ve AMAÇ: Bu araştırma öğrenci hemşirelerin maneviyat ve manevi bakıma ilişkin algılarını ve etkileyen değişkenleri belirlemek amacıyla tanımlayıcı olarak yapılmıştır.
YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Araştırmanın evrenini Ocak-Şubat 2014’te Karadeniz Bölgesi’nde bir ildeki sağlık yüksekokulu hemşirelik bölümünde kayıtlı olan 461 hemşirelik öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Örneklem seçimine gidilmemiştir. Araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 340 (%73.75) hemşirelik öğrencisi örnekleme alınmıştır. Veriler “Kişisel Bilgi Formu” ve “Maneviyat ve Manevi Bakım Dereceleme Ölçeği (MMBDÖ)” ile toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizi yüzdelik, ortalama, standart sapma, Kruskal Wallis testi, iki ortalama arasındaki farkın önemlilik testi ve Mann Whitney U testi ile yapılmıştır.
BULGULAR: Araştırmaya katılan hemşirelik öğrencilerinin yaş ort. 21.14, öğrencilerin %78.2’si kadın, %98.2’si bekar, %2.3’ü klinikte hemşire olarak çalışmakta olup %62.4’ü maneviyat ve manevi bakım ile ilgili bilgi almadıklarını, %86.2’si ise aldığı bilginin yeterli olmadığını belirtmişlerdir. Araştırmada tüm öğrenci hemşirelerin MMBDÖ puan ortalaması 64.99±6.15 olduğu belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin bulundukları sınıf, medeni durumları, klinikte çalışma durumları, manevi bakımla ilgili bilgi alma ve aldığı bilgiyi yeterli görme durumları ile ölçek toplam puan ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark yoktur (p>0.05). Yalnızca cinsiyete göre ölçek puan ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark vardır (p<0.05)
TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: Çalışma, öğrenci hemşirelerin maneviyat ve manevi bakım ilişkin bir algıya sahip oldukları fakat bu konudaki bilgilerinin yeterli düzeyde olmadığı ve eğitimin gerekli olduğunu göstermektedir.
