The Effect of Family Planning Consultancy Provided Through Post-Partum Home Visits Upon Effective Use of Family Planning Methods

OBJECTIVE: The current study is an intervention type and randomized controlled study conducted to determine the effect of family planning consultancy provided through post-partum home visits upon effective use of family planning methods.
METHODS: The sample of the study was composed of 140 puerperal women; 70 of them assigned to intervention and 70 to control group. To the women in the intervention group; family planning training was twice provided through post-discharge home visits (during the 6th week and 6th month.). The data were assessed through percentages, numbers, chi-square test and odds ratio statistical analysis.
RESULTS: It was found out that in the post-partum six month period, women in the intervention group used nearly 1.8 times more (0R: 1.8, Cl: 95%) effective family planning methods than the women in the control group. When the distribution of the participant women was examined in terms of use of effective family planning methods in the post-partum twelve month period; it was noted that women in the intervention group used nearly 1.4 times more (0R: 1.4, Cl: 95%) effective family planning methods than the women in the control group.
CONCLUSION: It was concluded that family planning consultancy provided through post-partum home visits affected the use of effective family planning methods positively.

Doğum sonrası ev ziyaretleri yoluyla verilen aile planlaması danışmanlığının etkili aile planlaması yöntemi kullanımına etkisi

AMAÇ: Bu çalışma, doğum sonrası ev ziyaretleri yoluyla verilen aile planlaması (AP) danışmanlığının etkili AP yöntemi kullanımına etkisini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmış, müdahale tipi bir randomize kontrol çalışmasıdır.
YÖNTEMLER: Araştırmanın örneklemini müdahale grubu ve kontrol gruplarında 70’er kişi olmak üzere 140 lohusa kadın oluşturmuştur. Müdahale grubundaki kadınlara doğum sonrası hastanede, taburculuk sonrası ev ziyaretleri yoluyla iki kere (6. hafta ve 6. ay) aile planlaması eğitimi verilmiştir. Verilerin toplanmasında Kadınlara İlişkin Özellikleri Tanımlayıcı Veri Toplama Formu, Kadınların AP Yöntemi Kullanma Durumunu Değerlendirme Formu kullanılmıştır. Verilerin, yüzdelik, sayı, ki-kare testi ve odds ratio istatistiksel analizleri ile değerlendirilmiştir.
BULGULAR: Doğum sonrası 6 aylık dönemde müdahale grubundaki kadınların kontrol grubundaki kadınlardan yaklaşık olarak 1.8 kat (0R: 1.8, Cl: 95%) daha fazla etkili AP yöntemi kullandıkları belirlenmiştir. Çalışmaya katılan kadınların doğum sonrası 12 aylık dönemde etkili AP yöntemi kullanma durumlarına göre dağılımları incelendiğinde ise müdahale grubundaki kadınların kontrol grubundaki kadınlardan yaklaşık olarak 1.4 kat (0R: 1.4, Cl: 95%) daha fazla etkili aile planlaması yöntemi kullandıkları belirlenmiştir.
SONUÇ: Doğum sonrası ev ziyaretleri yoluyla verilen aile planlaması danışmanlığının etkili aile planlaması yöntemi kullanma durumunu olumlu yönde etkilediği sonucuna varılmıştır.
