Effects of Radiotherapy Applied to Female Patients Diagnosed With Gynecological Cancer on the Sexuality

Having been diagnosed with cancer is not only a threat for live, but also it considerably degrades the quality of life. As the rate of post-cancer survival is increasing day-by-day, it becomes important to improve the quality of life of the patients. In addition to the unfortunate outcomes of having gynecological cancer, the patients diagnosed with gynecological cancer have the problems such as fertility problems, sexual functionality disorders and body image. Pelvic radiotherapy is a widely used treatment in cancer treatment. The side effects which may be occurred in the short- or long-term affect the quality of life of the patient. These side-effects can also be observed in the sexual life of the patient. The purpose of this article is to discuss the effects of radiotherapy on sexuality in patients with gynecologic cancer.

Jinekolojik Kanser Tanısı Almış Kadınlarda Uygulanan Radyoterapinin Cinselliğe Etkisi

Kanser tanısı almak yaşamı tehdit etmesinin yanı sıra yaşam kalitesini de önemli ölçüde düşürmektedir. Kanser sonrası hayatta kalma oranı gün geçtikçe artmakta bu sebeple de kişilerin yaşam kalitesini en üst düzeye çıkarmak önemli hale gelmektedir. Jinekolojik kanser tanısı alan hastalar kanser olmanın getirdiği olumsuzluklara ek olarak doğurganlık sorunları, beden imajı ve cinsel fonksiyon bozuklukları gibi sorunları da bir arada yaşamaktadır. Pelvik radyoterapi, kanser tedavisinde yaygın kullanılan bir tedavi şeklidir. Tedavi süresince erken ya da geç oluşabilecek yan etkiler kişilerin yaşam kalitesini etkilemektedir. Bu yan etkiler cinsel sağlık üzerinde de etkisini göstermektedir. Bu makalenin amacı, jinekolojik kanser tanısı almış hastalarda uygulanan radyoterapinin cinsellik üzerine etkilerinin tartışılmasıdır.
