The Perception of Male Nurses in Clinical Practice

Nursing is a profession dominated by women all over the world and in our country. And nursing care in the historical process, with the traditional roles of women and for women, as a profession, has been identified. Therefore, gender-related stereotypes influenced nursing. However, developing and maintaining health, preventing diseases, and strives to increase the quality of life of nursing in each case, without any gender discrimination, nursing is a profession that can be applied by both men and women. Today, by the participation of male members to the nursing profession, this will contribute to an increase in the social status of the profession and professionalization.
This is a case report of the society is to serve as male nurses in clinical practice is meant to be helpful to adopt.
In a private hospital in which we have been for master internship, in neurology ward, intracerebral hemorrhage, stroke developed in a female patient hospitalized with the diagnosis. Patient has aphasia, due to communication barriers and hemiparesis due to limited range of motion. The bedridden patient self-care requirements were done by the nurses. Bed bath planned for the patient care, one male and one female, two nurses agreed with the maintenance. One of the male nurses providing care to patients caused by patients' relatives had to react. Interviews with relatives as a result of this problem, as well as gender -specific role in providing positive patient expectations relative cultural beliefs were found to be effective.

Klinik Uygulamalarda Erkek Hemsire Algısı

Hemşirelik, tüm dünyada ve ülkemizde kadınların çoğunlukta olduğu bir meslektir. Tarihsel süreç içerisinde bakım ve hemşirelik, kadının geleneksel rolleri ile özdeşleşmiş ve kadınlara özgü bir meslek olmuştur. Bu nedenle hemşirelik cinsiyetle ilgili kalıp yargılardan etkilenmiştir. Oysa sağlığı geliştirme ve sürdürmeyi, hastalığı önleme ve yaşam kalitesini her durumda yükseltmeyi hedefleyen hemşirelik, cinsiyet ayrımcılığı olmaksızın hem kadın hem de erkekler tarafından uygulanabilecek bir meslektir. Günümüzde hemşirelik mesleğine erkek üyelerin katılması mesleğin profesyonelleşmesinde ve toplumsal statüsünün artmasında katkı sağlayacaktır.
Bu olgu sunumu; toplumun klinik uygulamalarda erkek hemşirelerin de görev almasını benimsemesine yardımcı olma amacıyla yazılmıştır.
Yüksek lisans stajı yaptığımız özel bir hastanenin nöroloji servisinde, intraserebral hemoraji tanısıyla yatan kadın hastada inme gelişti. Hastada; afazi nedeniyle iletişim engeli ve hemiparezi nedeniyle hareket kısıtlılığı mevcuttu. Yatağa bağımlı olan hastanın öz bakım gereksinimleri hemşireler tarafından karşılanıyordu. Yatak banyosu bakımı planlanan hastaya; erkek ve kadın hemşire birlikte bakım verdiler. Hastaya bakım veren hemşirelerden birinin erkek olması hasta yakınının tepki göstermesine neden oldu. Hasta yakını ile yapılan görüşme sonucu, bu problemin yaşanmasında hasta yakınının daha önce erkek hemşire görmemiş olmasının yanı sıra cinse özgü rol beklentilerinin de etkili olduğu gözlendi.
