Levels of nursing students and the relationship between altruism and empathic tendencies

OBJECTIVE: The research was conducted to determine the relationship between levels of altruism and empathic tendencies of nursing students.
METHODS: This study, between November 14, 2011 and January 13, 2012 the date, was carried out studying at the Department of Health Sciences School of Nursing students who were accepted to participate. For collecting the data, the socio-demographic form, Altruism Scale and Empathic Tendency Scale were used to. Data were analysed by using SPSS 16.0 package program.
RESULTS: The average age of the students in the Department of Nursing is 20 ± 1.76. Students 30.7% first grader, which is 56.6% more than the two brothers, which is 59.5% to be a general high school graduate was determined. Nursing students’ Altruism Scale average score was determined 72.85±8.18, and Empathic Tendency average score was determined 69.94±8.44. Family subscale score of Altruism Scale for nursing students was 19.87±2.92, social subscale score was 16.10±3.77, helpfulness subscale score 17.91 ± 3.34 responsibility subscale score was determined as 18.96 ± 2.79.
CONCLUSION: It was determined that there is a positive but weak correlation between tendency of altruism, empathic.

Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin özgecilik ve empatik eğilim düzeyleri ve aralarındaki ilişki

AMAÇ: Araştırma hemşirelik öğrencilerinin özgecilik ve empatik eğilim düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır.
YÖNTEMLER: Çalışma 14 Kasım 2011 - 13 Ocak 2012 tarihleri arasında, Sağlık Yüksekokulu Hemşirelik Bölümü öğrencilerinden bilgilendirilmiş onamları alınan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden öğrencilerle yapılmıştır. Verilerin toplanmasında Sosyo- Demografik Bilgi Formu, Özgecilik Ölçeği ve Empatik Eğilim Ölçeği (EEÖ) kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verileri, SPSS 16.0 paket programında değerlendirilmiştir.
BULGULAR: Hemşirelik Bölümü öğrencilerinin yaş ortalaması 20 ± 1.76’dır. Öğrencilerin % 30.7’sinin I. sınıf öğrencisi olduğu, % 56.6’nın 2’den fazla kardeşi olduğu, % 59.5’nın genel lise mezunu olduğu belirlenmiştir. Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin Özgecilik Ölçeği puan ortalaması 72.85±8.18, Empatik Eğilim puan ortalaması 69.94±8.44 olarak saptanmıştır. Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin Özgecilik Ölçeği aile alt boyut puanı 19.87±2.92, sosyal alt boyut puanı 16.10±3.77, yardımseverlik alt boyut puanı 17.91±3.34, sorumluluk alt boyut puanı 18.96±2.79 olarak belirlenmiştir.
SONUÇ: Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin özgecilik ile empatik eğilimleri arasında pozitif yönde fakat zayıf ilişki olduğu saptanmıştır.
